About The Dance School

The International School of Dance provides Ballroom and Latin American Dancing instruction in both North American and International styles of dance. The Principal Dancer, Mr. Bassam A.Hanafi, started competing in 1972 and established the International School of Dance in 1976 in Toronto.

Our Principal Teacher achieved the highest standard of dancing ever by a professional in Ontario. Mr. Hanafi is a highly qualified Teacher, provides excellent quality of teaching, based on thirty-five years of competing, teaching and coaching some of Ontario's top dancers and Professionals. Mr. Hanafi studied with the world’s top 84 Coaches and Dancers since he started in 1972.

Some of Mr. Hanafi's achievements:

  • Former Canadian Professional Standard and Latin American Champion
  • Former Canadian and North American Professional 10-Dance Champion Runner-up
  • Undefeated Ontario Professional Champion Standard and Latin American 1973-1998
  • Eastern U.S. I.S.T.D. Professional Rising Star Standard and Latin American (Basic) Professional Champion
  • Ranked 14th and 15th at the World Professional Championships in Standard and Latin American.
  • 5 Times Canadian Professional Representative to the World Professional Championships
  • Teacher of Ballroom Dancing at University of Toronto 1978-2001
  • Dancing on Ice Coach since 1985
  • Co-host of Dancing at The Palais TV show with WTN airing 11 times a week
  • Host and Dancer on Cable TV Channel 10 since 1989

Bassam Hanafi has judged amateur competitions such as:

  • The Classique de Quebec
  • The Canadian Open Amateur Championships
  • Chicago Harvest Moon Ball (amateur)
  • Many local Canadian and American Competitions and Championships
